a Sunday song

From the lectionary for today -
Colossians 2: 9-10
For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, and you have come to fullness in him, who is the head of every ruler and authority.

The song is 'Chi Rho', by Iona.
The picture to the right is 'Christ Enthroned from the Book of Kells, the subject of the song.

Colour of green
Green for the vine
For the leaves and the branches
The tree of life

Colour of red
Red for the wounds
That are deeper than I can know
How deep the flow
By Him all things, were created
By Him all things, were created
And the fullness, of the Godhead
Is in Him
Chi-Rho

Colour of gold
Gold for a throne
For the light that is blazing
From His face
Colourless white
For purity
White as snow, the colours flow
The mystery of Chi-Rho
By Him all things, were created
By Him all things, were created
And the fullness, of the Godhead
Is in Him
Chi-Rho

By Him all things, were created
By Him all things, were created
And the fullness, of the Godhead
Is in Him, Chi-Rho
In Him, Chi-Rho
In Him, Chi-Rho
In Him, Chi-Rho

Ah, love that song. Thanks for posting it.

Only thing, why the odd way of saying Chi-rho?

Is that an Americanism?

Sounds like the Edinburgh "cheer-o" (Goodbye!)

Yup, it is said a tad odd - er, maybe poetic license? Or perhaps they hadn't done Greek/ heard others pronounce it that way?
The group are Brits, so doubt it re. an Americanism.
And re. the burgh 'cheer-o' - lol, now I shall have an entirely different way of hearing that song!!! :)

lol, now I've gone and spoiled it for you.

Sorry about that.

btw I heard that song, only once, about 6 months ago, or a year ago, but just can't remember where.

Any suggestions?

try the album 'Book of Kells' or the live album 'Heaven's Bright Sun' :)

Thanks for that. I'm wondering if I heard it on one of those free "Demo" CDs sent to ministers, in which case I only ever did hear the first third of the track -- until now!

btw I'm a CofS minister -- in Duns Presbytery (that narrows it down quite a bit, eh?!)

It was Googling the names of "moderators designate" that took me to your site. So that's the whole story!

Best wishes in your studies!

Doubt you'll ever see this, what with it being so far back in your blog ...
but I realized a few weeks ago why the above song probably makes Chi-rho "Chee-ro":

if they pronounce it the academic way, it comes out sounding like the Capital of Egypt to hoi-poloi!

So, really, the way they handle it is as good as any. So, my apologies for my snarkey remarks at the beginning!

Pffft, I never took the comments as snarkey - thought it was a good question! :)
And your thought on Cairo is better than any I've come up with!
Cheers
